Could pinterest be the end of blogland?

The crafty blog land at least... I was wondering why my comments had dropped off so much despite an increase in pageviews...I was wondering if people weren't liking the projects I had been doing...I have actually been getting featured quite a bit lately, and I still have been getting lovely comments that I greatly apprieciate, just couldn't figure why comments were less when pageviews were more...My feather skirt tutorial was featured on Grosgrain and had over 2000 page views...MAJOR increase with one comment! Then, I read this post and comments and started thinking...btw...I'm not trying to beg for comments or anything...I was just thinking blogging is hard work, but to me I think the sense of community makes it worth it...I love "meeting"  new people and discovering new blogs.  Now don't get me wrong, I love pinterest as much as the next guy...no, seriously, look at my boards and see how many pins I have got in...I don't maybe the last month or so...It's just, I only have one person IRL who gets why all you ladies are so important to me...and she's two hours away.  I love being inspired by you guys, but I really feel in love with blogging because of all the fabulous ladies I have got to be blog buddies with.  I love how we encourage and support each other, and give each other our opinions when we need help... My family doesn't get my love of sewing and crafting and DIY...They are great, but I always have to hear the whole "you have three kids..you don't have time for that...are you homeschooling or just sewing...."  And it's so frustrating!  My son is 4 and can add and subtract but...no all I do is sew and play on the computer!  Sorry if I spend all day alone with the kids doing boring housework and schoolwork and when I finally get to talk to an adult I would prefer to talk about something I enjoy rather than work....Anyhow, I would be so sad to see great blogs disappear to pinterest...what do all of you think will happen? Has anyone else noticed a decline in comments and personal interaction?  Oh! And I forgot to mention, when I checked my skirt that was featured on Grosgrain, got pinned quite a bit. What are your thoughts?

I'm with Marni...I feel sad right now thinking about the possibility...

Call me a throwback, but I still love blogs. I have a long list of blogs that I follow and read faithfully (yours included). I consider blogs to be my newspaper: I read them in the morning and at night after the kids go to sleep. They're great for meeting like-minded women, and for learning all sorts of cool stuff about sewing, quilting, vintage clothing and crafting.

I joined Pinterest for one reason, and one reason only: to have a place to organize all of my bookmarks and favorites. I was getting tired of saving links for things and then having them disappear into the black hole that is my favorites list. Now, they're all nicely organized in a visual way, so I can find whatever I want at any time.

I'm a blogger and not just a blog reader so I've been thinking about this subject lately as well. In the end I'm sure Pinterest will hurt some blogs in terms of comments, but I also think it will help others. I do click on the links to things I repin, especially when it's a pattern and I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this. Also, things like Twitter and Facebook have an impact on blogs too.

I think there is still a future for bloggers, since there are still people out there who enjoy reading blogs. Our readership may change, though. Maybe it will simply be those people who are active readers and the ones who just follow without reading will drop away.

Who knows? Either way, I'm still here and I'm still reading! ;)

I've noticed a bit of a drop in comments, but I figured turn about is fair play. I haven't been commenting as much lately because I'm so busy, so I kind of figured that others are busy as well. (Also, I have a really small blog) I've still been reading all my blogs and will definitely keep at it!

I love blogging and would hate to see that happen!

Ugh, I would hate that and never even thought about it!! I love having bloggie buddies and seeing what goes on elsewhere - one of my favorite thing about blogs is the little peeks behind the scenes. I don't just visit for pictures and ideas - I like the feeling that I'm getting to know someone. Pinterest doesn't interest me much at all (for reasons above). But my visitor count HAS gone up, now that I'm thinking about it. My comments are so-so - high for link party projects, average for others..... now you've got me thinking....

I agree with some others. Pinterest is where I organize "bookmarks" as visual reminders - most often to blog posts that I don't want to be able to return to quickly later, whether for a tutorial, a beautiful photo or inspirational words.

Blogs are what I read & how I feel connected when my "local" friends don't share my sewing/ knitting interests. I'd attribute comments slacking off to school getting out, at least in North America.

@amy See that's what I was thinking too about the comments until I read that.

@Bethany I totally agree! I think it has helped my visitor count, but after reading that and thinking I was just worried that we would lose the sense of community. Glad to see that so many of you are like me and just use it for organizing and not as a replacement for..

Blogs are here to stay, baby!! How else are we going to find all these awesome things to pin?! LOL. As someone who blogs to no audience, I can imagine what it must be like when the comments go away...where is the love?! But, alas, you are loved and Pintrest can't keep a good blog down. I think after this initial craze the two worlds will complement each other nicely. I know I've found so many new blogs to follow thanks to Ptrest. ;)

For what its worth I find that even though I love comments I read blogs much more then I comment. Usually I just can't think of much useful to say. As for my blog I mostly just like to see page views. I got on pintrist pretty early and have not done well keeping up with it. This is not to say I won't as its a great idea but I don't think it can replace crafty blogs.

@Just Me True, true! Lol! I am not really upset by the lack of comments...it was just a curiosity for me, but then when I read that post,I was like "oh no! It would be so sad to lose all my blog buddies!"

So love all you guys! What was I worried about.... ;)

I love reading blogs! I feel like I'm just finding my niche with mine so I'd hate to see it dwindle. (all of them, not just mine!) As for comments, I don't usually get a lot on mine but the ones I do, are from what I consider my "bloggy friends" and they're pretty faithful :) I'm sure you have plenty of those that will hang around no matter what! (like me!)

I think there is a place for Pinterest. I love the visual bookmarks and I'm much more likely to discover new things on there. I usually go to the link instead of repinning, I want the original source and to say thanks.

There are a is a problem with Pinterest, there is no way to filter out offensive content. In the last couple of days I have run across lots of foul language, a few risque pictures, and a couple pornographic ones. I can't chance my little ones seeing that, so I haven't been looking at it. Those aren't usually a problem on craft blogs.

I think a drop in comments over the past few weeks could have to do with it being summer.

I love blog hopping and don't know what Pinterest is. I'm wondering if the reason people don't leave comments is because this is a busy time of the year. I know things have really gone wild here and I have all I can do to get through my favorite blogs each day and just don't have the time to leave comments. But I love blogs!!!

I am commenting on this blog post (that I found via a google search) because I was wondering if anyone else was feeling the same way I was-if they felt like pinterest was decreasing their blog comments. I can get 1000 views on one blog post and on average would get about 25 comments (beans to some big blogs) but I knew who my "regulars" were. I often check to see what has been pinned off of my blog and kind of feel like those pins are replacing the comments. I got 2 comments today on a tree skirt that I am enamored with. I thought more people would like it...then I check pinterest and there are 20 pins of it in the first few minutes. Like you said, blogging takes time and I want to know people are reading and appreciating what I'm doing. I don't blog for comments but I'm sad to see them go.
