Extreme Makeover Winner!

All of the ladies have done an absolutely amazing job!  They have completed some really great projects, and used up a TON  of fabric from their stash!  They have definitely inspired me to get my hiney in gear and finish up all those projects I bought fabric for but then somehow never got around to.  So, whose project was whose?  

Angie from Mama Lusco  made all the adorable red, white, and blue outfits and accessories, and used up an amazing 68+ yards over the course of the contest!

Andi from Laundry on the Line was responsible for this fantabulous pieced quilt, and used an astounding 74 yards over the course of the contest!

Amy from Little Country Bumpkins made all these adorable skirts and dresses.

Extreme Makeover Finale

Well, week 6 is up, and as usual the ladies have done an amazing job!  This week's theme, was my personal favorite, County Fair.  The ladies came up with some great projects.  And their sewing rooms look amazing!  They have definitely inspired me to get moving on my stash!  So have a look and vote for you favorite!

Our theme, 'Country Fair' screamed 'Americana' to me.  What's more American than red, white & blue and a lazy day at the fair?  I created easy-wearing casual clothes & accessories for the girls and I to wear on our day at the Country Fair.

These are coordinating head scarfs, rolled rosette clippies and a lunc money cuff.  I actually made 3 of these cuffs but the girls won't take theirs off!  Fabric used = 1/2 yard.

This my big girl's Country Fair outfit - a fun, comfy peasant top and matching ruffled capri pants.  She also has a money cuff and rosette headband.  Fabric used = 2 yards.

My little girl loves her new ruffle-sleeved top with side sash bows.  Her pants have a royal blue band at the bottom to match the top.  A matching head scarf tops off her outfit.  Fabric used = 2 yards.

This is an easy-wearing knit tank with gentle gathers at the bust, square-necked yoke and elastic band at the hip.  Matching knit shorts will keep me comfy all day long.  Rolled knit rosette clippies and Mama's Ruffled Shoulder Bag (tutorial on my blog) finish off my outfit.

Fabric used: 2 yards I'm happy to have sewn through 68+ yards of fabric in the past 6 weeks! I have a HUGE stash of fabric, so it doesn't really look like I've even made a dent. Living 3 1/2 hours from the nearest fabric store has made me stock up when I find a good sale since it's months between my visits to the city. I have tried to tidy-up my sewing room and keep my cupboards organized.  Extreme Makeover: Fabric Edition has motivated me to finish projects that I've been putting off.  Thank you for following along on this adventure!

It's hard to believe this is the final week! I've had such a great time, learned new sewing skills, cleaned my sewing room, and used a LOT of fabric! I'm so glad I was able to participate. This week's theme was so much fun! County Fair brought to mind jars of home-made preserves, tables of pies and baking, quilts and crafts, pens full of farm animals, rows of brightly-coloured rides and carnival games. 

 Here is what I made: A trio of aprons.

 

 

 

This one has a matching bread bag to fill with yummy county fair baked goods. A messenger bag and water bottle tote for spending the day at the fair. 

 

Fold-up pocket bags to tuck into your purse until needed.

 

Two skirts, in fabrics inspired by the County Fair: a dark denim blue and a flouncy floral with eyelet underskirt.

   

 

And a quilt top made from a mix of traditional and modern blocks, in honour of county fairs past and present.

   

Total fabric used this week: 19 yards Total fabric used over 6 weeks: 74 yards 

What a difference this has made to my sewing room! My drawers are still full of fabrics, organized by type, size, and colour. But now I can get them all open, and there is nothing piled in front of them.

   

 

The huge box that sat in front of these shelves is gone! 

 

 

My "to-sew" bin is now neat and manageable, and reclaimed fabrics have been reorganized and the lids now fit on all the bins! Every speck of fabric and scrap has it's place. Eventually I hope to have another set of shelves so I can get rid of all of the plastic bins (or maybe I'll just keep sewing until all the fabric is gone!)

Okay so I guess this is it. Our final project. I adored the theme it was right up my alley. So with no further adieu i give you my little ladies and their exhibits for the COUNTY FAIR.

So we have Miss M. she has been working on her baking exhibit, then there is Miss C. she is raising a purple ribbon pig for the fair. Miss K. is sewing up a darling baby blanket that's sure to get Grand Champion and last but not least is our other Miss K. who is also raising a prize winning pig!

I whipped out my Izzy and Ivy patterns for this challenge and made their Macy Giggles sundress for Miss K. I also made the baby blanket in the previous photo.

I also used the Izzy and Ivy Addie Jo skirt pattern to make Miss C. a County Fair skirt. {She really does have what we think will be the purple ribbon oinker at the fair this year}.

Here is the Girliest Dress and apron I whipped up for Miss M.

Miss K. is sure to be a prize winner in another Izzy and Ivy Addie Joe skirt I made just for this competition.{She also really does have a doozy of an oinker for the fair this year}. So just to recap that's 2 dresses with aprons and hair pretties, 2 skirts with hair pretties and 1 baby blanket! I don't get to count the all the yardage on a few things but my grand total was 7.5 yards. Thank you so much for having me!

So I moved all of my stash from under the bed. I actually would have liked to do a lot more but I just ran out of time. I am now using the coat closet right off the dining room to put all of my craft stuff in. It is way more convenient than digging it out from under the bed. Ideally I would like to have shelves with my fabric out so that I could see it. Hopefully I will find some time to get it all out.
