Oliver + S Jump Rope Dress

Is this dress cute or what?!?  It took me two full days of sewing to complete, but I think it was sooooo worth it!  Like the Hopscotch Skirt, the pattern was super easy to follow.  My only complaint is that the cutting layouts seem to waste quite a bit of fabric...a major pet peeve of mine.  I laid it out my own way....making sure that the grain lines were correct, and I was left with over a half a yard of fabric.  If I had laid it out the way it is pictured on the pattern that half a yard would not have been useable, except for as scraps....maybe there is some reason I don't know about, but all seemed to turn out well, and I still have another half a yard of fabric to do something with...  It does seem like this is the case with most patterns though, so maybe they just want to make sure you have enough....I don't know.

Anyway, aside from that, I really enjoyed making this dress.  There were a couple of spots were I wished they had more pics, but you can go to the Oliver + S forum for help if you need it, so problem solved.

This pattern was also made for my local fabric store, and I am really glad I did it because I would never have choose it-or any of the Oliver + S patterns-on my own.  The fabric either. It's Roundabout Dots in Market Green from Liesl Gibson's City Weekend collection.  Don't get me wrong, I always thought they were really adorable, but I typically like really bright colors, and I am more into boutique style clothing(mostly because it is so quick to make) but this is just so sweet!  Don't you think she looks like she's off to her first day of kindergarden? I have to say I can definately see myself making more Oliver + S patterns in the future.

I had to do the collar twice because I just could not get it even!

I love these little buttons.  They are from a stash I have that came from my great grandmother.

And what can I say?  I'm a sucker for a bow on a dress...
