And it only took 2 years...

lol... I cut this scarf out two years ago when I first got my sewing machine...or was it a year???  I don't know.  Regardless, it sat in my sewing room since then because I didn't know at the time that when you have thicker fabrics that won't feed well, you just have to lengthen your stitch a bit...and once I did know this, I always had so many other things going I never finished it...

But as part of my cleaning out and organizing, I am trying to finish all the projects I started and never finished.  So this scarf finally got done!  And it only took me two years!!  You may have noticed I haven't really posted many sewing projects lately, and it's because 1) most of the sewing I have been doing has been small stuff like sewing buttons back on, etc...just trying to get my sewing room cleaned out.  2) I have two big projects going on right now: Sophie's b-day party and organizing a benefit to raise money for my grandmother to be able to get treatment for her COPD...She has tried lots of different meds over the years and nothing has really helped her, so we found a new treatment online, but it is waaayy expensive, so we are doing all we can to raise the money for her to get the treatment in March since she her condition has gotten much worse recently.  Anyways, so I will be busy with that over the next couple months, but I will try to post as much as possible.

So, okay now that I got my ramble out let me share my pics of Sophie...she wanted to model the scarf for me...most of the pics are blurry but still so cute...at least I think so!  ; )

Linen & Lace Infinity Scarf Tutorial

I got a request for a tutorial for the linen & lace infinity scarf I posted yesterday, so I figured I'd share a quick tutorial.

What you'll need:

16.75" x 18" lace
56.25" x 18" linen
thread
sewing machine

With WRONG sides together, stitch the lace to the linen strip on both of the short sides using a 3/8"(match the 18" sides of the linen to the lace), so that you create a circle of fabric.  Trim the seam allowance to 1/4". Press the seams toward the linen.

This is what it should look like.

Now turn the scarf RS out and press so that the seam allowance is sandwiched in between the linen and lace.

Now stitch another 3/8" seam.  This will enclose the raw edges.

Now once again press the seam toward the linen and edge stitch it down (along the edge of the lace).

This is what it will look like on the opposite side.

Now edge stitch along the edge of the linen.  And this is what it should look like. And now you know how to do a french seam!!!  So this tutorial is sort of like a two for one deal!  lol

BTW:  Please excuse all my little hairs from the raw edge sticking out...I had forgot to trim the first seam down to 1/4".

Now finish the long raw edges of the scarf.  I used my narrow hem foot, but it won't go over the french seam because it's too much fabric, so I had to do that spot by hand, but if you don't have a narrow hem foot you could do it by hand.  Just turn the raw edge up 1/4"; press; turn in another 1/4" the stitch.  You could even do a rolled hem or faux rolled hem.

And that's it! your done!

Linen & Lace Infinity Scarf

Update:  you can now find the tutorial for this scarf here

I made one of these for my mom & nanny.  I love them...my mom said she doesn't know if she'll be able to figure it out.  lol  I was like "okay Mom, just twist!"  I figure if she can figure out an iphone, she should be okay with an infinity scarf!  Am I right???

I also made this scarf for my cousin.  I have been supposed to make it for two years now, but keep forgetting, so she was super excited with it!

I also made each of my sisters a fleece infinity scarf, but I was in such a rush I didn't get to take pics...

I posted these pics last year, but only had a few readers at the time so I thought it was worth posting again...plus I miss when my babies were this little!  Looking at them now, it's hard to believe these pics were only taken a year ago!

BTW:  I no longer list in my etsy shop, so if anyone looks it will be empty...but would be happy to tell you how to make any of the items if anyone's interested just ask!

Sha baby!  I loved him in the tie with his "pa"

I have some ideas for this year, and I really need to get moving cause football season's almost here!!!  Have you made anything cute for this season yet?  Love to see it...feel free to leave a link in the comments section if you like!  ;)
